This past week we had rumor of Alex Pettyfer and Rachel Hurd-Wood joining the cast followed by a word that Lucasfilm was planning a “Big casting announcement” in the next week or so. Today Film Chronicles believes that they have something on this big announcement, and that it will feature Benedict Cumberbatch.

“There’s a lot of gossip swirling around that Lucasfilm is about to make a big casting announcement regarding Star Wars VII, and that casting announcement appears to be none-other than Benedict Cumberbatch, most recently seen in director JJ Abrams’ previous movie, ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’.”

A few months back, Benedict was rumored to be playing some sort of villainous role in the upcoming Star Wars sequel so this may not come as a surprise to most fans; However, with the upcoming announcement and Cumberbatch re-surfacing as a rumor once again, you never know what Disney and Lucasfilm may have in store for us!

So would Cumberbatch make a good villian? How about a Protagonist? Let us know your thoughts below!

Update: Furious Fanboys confirms that this rumor is just a fan wish, based on some tweets that have been running around on twitter from Variety magazine. Although he is Khan in the recent Star Trek sequel, he could pull off a rather menacing villain if he were somehow to make it into this Star Wars sequel.
