Rick McCallum Works On A New SciFi Film

Ever since the sell of Lucasfilm to Disney many of the employees have been cut short. Ever wonder what they’ve been up to? Rick McCallum, has been head of Lucasfilm since the first trilogy and now, he has a lot of free time so what has he been up to? Rick has been working with a small group of people on a Sci Fi short film, called R’Ha.

Kaleb Lachowski, he’s the one that created the short and is directing the project. With him, Matthew Graham, who is known for doing the TV show Life on Mars is also helping with this project.

R’Ha is about a nonhuman alien race that have been protecting the Solar Systems until they are attacked by a menacing foe. It being an alien race is what drew McCallum to the project and they’re trying to make it a European film.

“What inspires me and our team is that there are no humans whatsoever in the film, and yet Kaleb has come up with a world that is so engaging and so alive and so real that it really is very different from anything else I have seen in the sci-fi world,” said McCallum via email from Prague.

He added: “We want to make it as a European film, using VFX facilities from all over Central and Eastern Europe and Asia, and do it for a price that not only allows Kaleb total control of his unique vision, but is incomprehensible in the big-budget VFX world that we now live in!”

Since leaving Lucasfilm, he has been working on many projects outside of the US, using his own company, Film United. R’Ha is one of the first Sci Fi films that he has been working on since the sell of Lucasfilm. Other projects that he’s working on is Borgias, which started filming in May, and he’ll be working on a novel adaptation of So Far So Good by Jan Novak.

Below is the short film, R’Ha.
