Not going to lie, when I first heard about this I was like, this has to be a photo shop trick to mess with Star Wars fans. So I pulled out my copy of Star Trek Into Darkness and went to this scene and what did I spy with my eye? I spotted the famous R2 unit being sucked out into space along with the rest of the Enterprise crew.
With Star Trek fans, they already considered JJ’s latest sequel/remake to be the worst in the series, and this only adds to their anger. It’s okay though, cause it’s not the first time that R2 has played as an Easter Egg in a film. According to Movie Club he has been featured as an Easter Egg in other films.
If you want to check it out for yourself and have a copy of Star Trek Into Darkness R2 can be spotted approximatley 1 hour and 17 minutes into the film after they are being fired on while in Hyperspace.
