Richard Gelfond, CEO of IMAX, has shared that he has made plans with J.J. Abrams to shoot parts of Star Wars: Episode VII in the giant screen format. As you may recall, Star Trek Into Darkness was filmed in this format. At Goldman Sach’s Annual Communacopia Conference, Gelfond said:
“We are talking to J.J. Abrams [just] now about the next Star Wars being used with partly IMAX cameras.
Other upcoming films to be shot in this format include Transformers: Age of Extinction in 2014 and Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar. It has not been revealed whether or not the film will be shot in 3D as of yet. Star Wars: Episode VII begins filming in January 2014 and will be released in (rumored) December 2015.
