With Peter Mayhew having recent knee surgery it’s unlikely that he’ll be able to take up the role of Chewbacca, as much as we all want his return to the iconic role. But someone else is up for the role, his name, Jonny Mathers. He’s not a seasoned actor and received a call from his mom shortly after the this role was said to be looking to be filled.
Walt Disney Pictures/LucasFilm/Bad Robot have put out a casting call for a: “Male, 7 ft to 7.3 ft tall with a slim/thin build and upright posture.
“Not too worked out or too ‘thick set’ especially in the shoulders. Broad facial features would be a bonus”.
“She said she’d heard the casting directors were looking for a 7ft 3 male and we twigged it was Star Wars,” he said.
“There can’t be that many roles for blokes my height and I’d love to be in it, no matter what capacity.”
He has even set up a facebook page to help get his name out there. He’s been a long time fan of the Star Wars series and just like any fan, wouldn’t mind being part of this epic universe.
“It’d be my dream come true to be part of the latest installment,” he said.
“I’ve been in contact with Spotlight and I’m taking things from there.
“I can’t say any more right now but this would be a great opportunity for me,” he said.
So as to whether or not his call has been heard, we don’t know but we do know that they’re looking for someone of his build and height. As I say to all fans that are trying to get roles in the sequels, “May the force be with you!”
