So with the announcement that Star Wars Episode VII will not be following the Expanded Universe, many are wondering about what’s going to happen with current canon. While it will still be available to the fans, Disney will be starting a new canon with four new titles which will be released bi-monthly beginning with Star Wars: A New Dawn, which will follow Kanan and Hera before the events of Star Wars: Rebels. Disney has teamed up with Del Rey books to release the new titles.

Our very first official canon novel set solidly in the legendary “Dark Times” between Episodes III and IV, A NEW DAWN will introduce readers to two main characters from the upcoming Star Wars: Rebels animated series—Kanan Jarrus and Hera Syndulla—and will feature jacket art by Doug Wheatley, as well as a foreword by Dave Filoni, one of the executive producers of The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels. It goes on sale September 2, 2014.

The other titles include with their release dates are as follows;

Tarkin – November 4, 2014

Heir to the Jedi – January 2015

The Lords of the Sith – March 2015

Most fans will have a particular interest in The Lords of the Sith, as it follows the relationship between The Emperor and Darth Vader following the events of Revenge of the Sith. The synopsis is as follows,

When the Emperor and his notorious apprentice, Darth Vader, find themselves stranded in the middle of insurgent action on an inhospitable planet, they must rely solely on each other, the Force, and their awesome martial skills to prevail.

So the new series will be leading the new generation of Star Wars fans and readers. Although we wish the old EU was canon, it’ll be refreshing to see some new stories and adventures to take our imaginations to a galaxy far, far away.
