Fans have been excited about Disney’s recent announcement of integrating Star Wars into their theme parks. With the addition of Star Wars land, it’s going to come at some costs. But for most of them, they’ll only be closed for a year. So Disney lovers, you have just a few more months to visit some of these attractions before they close.
Starting January 10, 2016, Disney guests will be unable to visit some of the park’s beloved attractions for about a year, OC Register reports. On the same day, all four train stations along the Disneyland Railroad, the nightly Fantasmic! show, the Mark Twain Riverboat, the Sailing Ship Columbia, the Davy Crockett Explorer Canoes and the Pirates Lair on Tom Sawyer Island will close temporarily.
The river will be partially drained and diverted to the Orange County Water District’s Groundwater Replenishment system, where it will be treated and stored, a Disneyland spokesman said. When the time comes to refill the rivers, Disney will replenish from the same system.
Disneyland officials said work is expected to take more than a year, but did not set a date for when these attractions will return to action.
Disney chairman Bob Iger announced back in August during D23, that Disney would be building Star Wars lands at both Disneyland in Anaheim and Walt Disney World in Orlando.
“We are creating a jaw-dropping new world that represents our largest single themed land expansion ever,” Iger said. “These new lands at Disneyland and Walt Disney World will transport guests to a whole new Star Wars planet, including an epic Star Wars adventure that puts you in the middle of a climactic battle.”
So even though a few attractions will be vacant for a while, it is only temporary. But we are going to see some exciting changes to the theme parks.
More exciting news talks about November 16th, we’ll be seeing changes to Space Mountain and Tomorrowland as well as a new villain from Star Wars Rebels to appear at the Jedi Training Academy.
Most of Tomorrowland will transform into a temporary “Star Wars” haven:
• The Tomorrowland Theater will show scenes from “Star Wars” movies.
• Space Mountain will turn into Hyperspace Mountain with riders zooming through an X-wing starfighter battle.
• Star Tours will feature a new scene from “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” the seventh movie in the series, which premieres on Dec. 18.
• Darth Vader, Chewy and the rest of the crew will host meet-and-greets at the Star Wars Launch Bay inside the Innoventions building. The building previously housed the meet and greets with characters from the Marvel universe. No official word if the Marvel meet and greet will return later.
Star Wars Launch Bay will also contain exhibits of “Star Wars” ships and props from “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” as well as Dark and Light Side of the Force themed galleries. In the Dark Side gallery, visitors will see Stormtrooper armor and Sith lightsabers, while the Light Side will feature Rebel flight helmets and Jedi lightsabers.
Starting in December, kids aiming to train in the Jedi Training Academy: Trials of the Temple will fight alongside yet-to-be-named new characters and a villain from the Disney XD show “Star Wars Rebels.”
The new film is to be released on December 18th!
