EA’s BioWare has created some amazing open world RPGs (Role Playing Game) like Mass Effect and Dragon Age, but one game that has seemed to elude them is a true non MMO (Massively Multiplayer Online) RPG game based in the Star Wars universe. Sure there is Star Wars: The Old Republic which as of 2012 has gone free to play, but only for those who are PC gamers. Console gamers have been left out since, and with the new generation of console gaming the time couldn’t be more right for a new title.
That is where a new collation of former Ubisoft game developer Jade Raymond and former creative director and story producer of Naughty Dog’s epic action adventure series, Uncharted, Amy Hennig come into play.
Together Hennig and Raymond bring some serious gaming development skills and reputation to the future of Star Wars gaming. Raymond whose worked on titles such as Assassin’s Creed, Watch Dogs and Splinter Cell has joined ranks with Motive Studios as of July 2015. Hennig on the other hand, left Naughty Dog last year to peruse her own independent work with Visceral Games. The two gaming studios will collide together to bring about a new open world RPG based in the Star Wars universe. Not much else has been said about when or who the game will follow, but if BioWare’s reputation precedes them. Gamers will be able to make their own character and choose between the light or dark side.
“I’m thrilled that the first big project that we will work on in Montreal will have Amy as Creative Director.” Raymond is quoted saying on Motive Studios “An opportunity to work with her and the Visceral team, and to play in the Star Wars universe, is once-in-a-lifetime stuff.”
It’s an exciting thought to imagine an open world and open universe like in Mass Effect. With the fighting diversity of an Assassin’s Creed game. An overall graphical look of a Star Wars: Battlefront with hints of the FPS (First Person Shooter) effect. All nicely tied together with great storyline, unique characters, emotional tugs at the heart (like all good BioWare games), and epic plot twist.
I myself being a huge fan of the Uncharted series and the original concept of Assassin’s Creed am truly excited to see what these two brilliant gaming minds can create. With Raymond and Hennig at the wheel a strong disturbance in the force there has been, and I can’t wait to see what will happen.
